Forge Your Sacred Resolve

A Sankalpa is not a wish. It is a truth you plant — short, present, and certain — and water with daily repetition until it becomes you.

What it is
A short statement of being, not doing. Planted in the subconscious mind.
How it works
Repeated 3× at sleep threshold when the mind is most receptive to deep imprint.

The tradition
From yoga nidra as taught by Swāmī Satyanānanda — one Sankalpa held for life.

Clear the ground
What pattern are you ready to release?
Why this matters
Before planting a seed, clear the soil. Begin with honest acknowledgement of what has been in the way — a fear, a habit, a limiting story. The act of naming it is the loosening of its hold.
  • Be specific — “fear of being seen” is stronger than “self-doubt”
  • No judgment — name it plainly, as a gardener names weeds
  • One thing — what feels most alive right now

The seed — your Sankalpa
State your resolve as if it is already true.
The three laws of a true Sankalpa
Shape it with precision — the subconscious mind responds to form, not only meaning.
  • Present tense — “I am…” not “I will be…”
  • Positive only — no “not”, “stop”, “less” (the mind skips negatives)
  • Short and singular — one truth, short enough to say in one breath
  • Felt, not performed — words that land in your chest, not your head
Aim for 5–12 words
3
The vessel — when you hold it
When and where will you repeat it?
The power of threshold moments
A Sankalpa takes root at a fixed threshold moment — when the mind is neither fully awake nor asleep. Traditionally repeated three times at the beginning and end of yoga nidra, and at waking and falling asleep.
  • The moment of waking — before fully opening your eyes
  • The moment of falling asleep — as the body relaxes
  • The start and end of meditation or yoga nidra
Be specific about timing

Seal it with your name
Whose resolve is this?
The seal of ownership
In the tradition, a Sankalpa belongs to a specific person. Your name seals it as yours. Optional — leave blank to keep it unsigned.

From the tradition of yoga nidra
“The Sankalpa is a short mental statement which is impressed upon the subconscious mind during yoga nidra, when the mind is relaxed and most receptive. Whatever you resolve during yoga nidra, it will be ingrained within you like a deep furrow in the earth.” — Swāmī Satyanānanda Sarasvatī, Yoga Nidra
